Ahernes in Youghal is only a twenty minute drive to Dungarvan.

Dungarvan is a thriving seaside market town nestled beneath the Comeragh mountains of County Waterford Ireland.

The harbour at the mouth of the Colligan River has become a popular haven for local and visiting boaters.

Strategically located on the South East coast of Ireland and overlooking beautiful Dungarvan Bay, the town has a population of more than 8,000 people.

Visit the Old Market House Arts Centre

Originally the medieval market for the Castle and local inhabitants, this fine building now serves as the Town's art gallery. Two artists are normally showcased in the main two gallery rooms while numerous local artists display their talents upstairs. Displays change frequently.

Dungarvan Castle

The castle was built by the Normans in the 12th century and strengthened by King John of Robin Hood fame in the early 1200's. The Castle controlled the important ferry crossing over the Colligan River and strengthened Normal control of the turbulent countryside. Totally refurbished by the Office of Public Works, the Castle is now open to visitors in the Spring through Autumn and features a fascinating glimpse of barracks life.

We had a lovely time in Aherne's townhouse and the tasting menu which we had was delicious. Overall the standard of food was very high. I had booked Ahernes as a birthday weekend away and my only complaint, which is quite small in the grand scheme of things was that I had been told that a cake would be provided on the night we had dinner in the restaurant. Unfortunately, there was an oversight and there was no mention of my Fiancees birthday despite two other tables in the restaurant having birthday also and being given a cake throughout the night - this further highlighted the fact that we got missed out and my Fiancee was alittle disappointed. Aside from this though, we had a lovely time and would certainly recommend this hotel.
Had two very relaxing days in Aherne's which were enjoyed by the fact that the Staff were so friendly and made us feel at home immediately. We enjoyed the food especially the FISH was sad to be going home. Will definitely make a return visit.
